Rik Buter and Hanna de Haan are part of the choreographed exhibition at NS16, which runs throughout the weekend. Their work and performance will be accompanied by the work of Shana de Villiers and Gabriel Kolesar, and the improvised experimental noise by Truus de Groot.
Rik Buter and Hanna de Haan create monumental wall drawings. With hands and charcoal, they transform the space. Impulsive, without a preconceived plan or final goal. Each begins somewhere, then switches places. They complement each other’s work by adding something, wiping it away, or scratching over it. The artists are surrendered to one another and inspired by each other, in front of the viewer’s eyes.
De Haan (1980) and Buter (1974) both graduated from the art academy in Kampen. In addition to drawings, she makes woodcuts, while he has devoted himself to etching. Together they have previously created wall drawings at Quartair in The Hague, at the artist initiative Ruimtevaart in The Hague, and at Studio Seine in Rotterdam.
