Karolina Bergman Engman (Bjärred, Sweden, 1991) is an artist and filmmaker based in Malmö, Sweden and Bergen, Norway. She holds a BA in Visual communication from Malmö University, where she started to explore her visual language in moving images, focusing on animation. Bergman Engman now resides in Bergen, where she studies at Bergen Academy of Art concentrating on video, installation and sculpture. Her practice primarily focuses on elements of the everyday, where situations or actions are highlighted, to a point where reality develops into fiction.
Rootless is an animated short based on photographs, reflecting upon memory processing of a lost home. The location goes through a transition from present to absent, to eventually become an object of memory. While soundscapes are repeated to a point where technological errors make an imprint, struggling to recall its presence. As the house becomes distant, traveling and fading into time.
